Chana Masala

This is one of my favorites. I was never really big on sitting down to a bowl of chick peas but this recipe makes them taste irresistible! I served this and my guests said they were surprised at how full they felt after wards! The chick peas are high in protein & very filling!
Vegetable oil
2 onions halved & sliced
2 tomatoes (optional)
green chilies or jalapenos cut into chunks
2 tbsp garlic & ginger (I use garlic/ginger paste)
2 tsp cumin, coriander, red chili powder, turmeric
1 T Garam Masala
2 C chick peas drained
Cilantro to taste ( about 2 cups)

Put a generous amount of oil in pan & heat over medium-high heat. Add in onions & cook until translucent

Once they are cooked add green chili pepper, garlic/ginger, cumin, coriander, garam masala, red chili powder and turmeric.

Then add chick peas & continue to cook until they are "roasted". Add a little bit of water which will create your "base or gravy" then add in tomatoes until cooked. Turn pan off & add in cilantro, stir well & cover with lid. Let sit until cilantro is steamed.
As a topping to the rice I added a little leftover http://livecleaneatgreen.com/?p=635 on top! You can also serve this with fresh Naan bread http://livecleaneatgreen.com/?p=648
